Buzz Aldrin is the second American astronaut to walk on the moon. He did so with Neil Armstrong after Apollo 11 landed in the Sea of Tranquility on July 20, 1969. Unbelievably, there are conspiracy kooks who believe that the moon-landings were all faked, either filmed in the Arizona desert or in a Hollywood movie set. Why they believe this, I do not know. Perhaps they are religious fanatics who believe God would never have allowed man's intrusion into the heavens. I remember my own grandmother, quite aged at the time of the first moon landing, tell me bluntly: "I don't believe it." Actually, she refused to believe it.
This video has been making the rounds on the internet. It shows an aged Buzz Aldrin being accosted by conspiracy kook Bart Siebrel, who is adamant that Aldrin never walked on the moon, and insists that Aldrin admit the fraud. When he starts hectoring Aldrin with personal insults -- "you're a coward, and a liar and a thief," Aldrin slugs Siebrel in the face. (A satisfying conclusion to the film, I must say.)
Siebrel is so typical of the fanatics we see in the 9/11 "Truther" movement or the dwindling circle of paranoids who still believe the CIA/Dallas Police/Mafia killed JFK. THEY BELIEVE! Their beliefs rest on nothing but their own biases, fantasies and mental illnesses, but they are so sure of their position that they are willing to get in the face of anyone who disagrees. It's a mad world we live in.
Buzz Aldrin is now 81 years old; I don't know the date of the incident filmed below, but the video claims he was 74 years old at the time.
