The Middle East International Film Festival (MEIFF) this year will focus on promoting the understanding of Islam to the entertainment industry of United States, apart from also paying tribute to Hollywood actress Jane Fonda. The MEIFF 2008 will be a 10-day event from October 10 to October 19 and will see the giving away of cash prizes totaling upto more than a million dollars. Films from as many as 35 countries will be shown here in the fixed time-span.

The UAE film festival will put forward the Muslims on Screen and Television' (MOST) initiative aimed at serving as a cultural resource center for all information pertaining Muslims and Islam for the entertainment industry in US. Nashwa Al Ruwaini, the MEIFF executive director, said, 'Its aim is to meet the critical need for increased understanding and accurate representation on both sides at a time of tension and suspicion between the US and the Muslim world.'
