Initially things went well. Hitler was jubilant. His generals were jubilant. The German soldiers on the front were full of motivation.

The Russians were withdrawing. Soldiers surrendered in large numbers. This was in late 1941.

The Russians are very proud and patriotic. The attack on Russia by the Germans was like an assault on Mother Russia. Russians would fight come what may. And they did fight!

THE END IN 1945: While German women stayed home. perhaps that was the difference. Here German women stumble past the Brandenburg Gate in 1945. Germany had lost. It's most virile and young men killed. Only women and old men remained. The women were 'fodder' to the hungry Russians.
